New Calendar, Who Dis?
Welcome to all my new readers, and welcome back to those returning!
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been having the most fantastic winter. The world might be ending somewhere else, but in my backyard there’s a delightful blanket of snow and a frozen pond for skating on. What could possibly make it any better?
A new Five Year Fences album, that’s what! It can be found on bandcamp as well as my website. The Edward Albie series is going to contain a lot of ambient tunes, and is geared more towards bottling heart/healing music than my typical releases. So if you’re not into the “hippie stuff,” despair not; I’ll be back at it with my usual sarcastic potty humor soon enough. But if you’ve had a long day, need to relax, or want to lift up your spirit, I think these tunes are a great place to start. There’s also the EP from late last year, Uncut Jams, available through the same sites. It’s in the same vein, and a little rawer. Enjoy. Or don’t, I’m not your boss.
For those of you who haven’t checked it out yet, I recently released Bucket of Crabs, a short film that has been compared to the Twilight Zone, and (perhaps less flatteringly) described as “a 1920s version of Beevis and Butthead.” It can be viewed on YouTube, Vimeo, and my website. The score is by the ever-effervescent Arugula Oglethorpe. Click that link to check out his stuff. You won’t regret it.
Those are the most recent releases, and there’s plenty more to come! Another Five Year Fences album is already underway, and a new feature length film is in the works. This September I’ll be launching the Pioneer Valley Film Festival, along with a couple other filmmakers. We’re still ironing out details, but it will be in or near Northampton, MA. Dates TBA.
Now for the uncomfortable part (for me), where I remind you all that art isn’t free, and if you or someone you know is in a place to help support my work, please consider a paid subscription. Even small amounts really mean a lot. It’s nice to know that others value the time, love, and vulnerability that I pour into everything I make. If a one-time donation is more up your alley, please head over to https://ko-fi.com/stmsoulcow. That being said, I do this work for love, not money. If I had to pick, I would rather you engage with this work, share it with friends, write me shocked and outraged letters about it, dream about it, or write looney love letters to the characters you met within it than give me money. That’s why I don’t charge for any of it. But it would be nice if I didn’t have to pick. My landlord doesn’t accept good vibes in lieu of rent checks.
Thank you for reading, and for checking out the work! Please share this newsletter and any of the work with any and everyone. It’ll make me smile (and hopefully make them smile too. Or frown. Or cry).
Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. By letting go of the past, we make room for the future, and, more importantly, the present moment. May you all have full hearts and clear minds on this beautiful Sunday.
With love,
Spencer
